South Panola High School is proud to announce Mr. Phillip Ray, Automotive Service Instructor, as our Teacher of the Year!
With 26 years of teaching experience, Mr. Ray exemplifies excellence in the classroom through his engaging instruction, strong leadership, and unwavering commitment to student success. In the automotive program, he equips students with industry-relevant skills that prepare them not only for certification, but for real-world careers. His students leave his classroom with technical expertise as well as essential workplace skills like professionalism, accountability, and problem-solving.
Beyond the classroom, Mr. Ray’s dedication shines through his leadership in SkillsUSA, where his students have earned numerous district and state championships, along with two national titles—a true testament to his commitment and high expectations. He goes above and beyond to mentor and support students, fostering a culture of excellence.
His impact is also reflected in outstanding certification results. As of April 1, 2026, students have completed 114 ASE national credentialing exams with an impressive 98.2% pass rate, including a 100% pass rate on the Maintenance and Light Repair certification. This level of achievement highlights his structured instruction and dedication to student mastery.
Mr. Ray and his students also give back to our school community by assisting faculty and staff with vehicle maintenance and repairs—providing valuable real-world experience while serving others.
Through strong partnerships with local businesses and a focus on workforce development, Mr. Ray continues to make a lasting impact on both his students and the broader community.
