Matthews to take on role as SPHS principal
A familiar face will lead South Panola High School next school year as Jason Matthews was recently named principal of SPHS beginning July 1, 2019.
Matthews, who has served as the ninth-grade principal since the 2016-17 school year, will take over for Rodney Flowers, who is retiring at the end of June.
Matthews has served in the education field for 25 years as a teacher/coach at schools in Hernando and Clarksdale before becoming an Assistant Principal at Batesville Junior High School in 2011 and Assistant Principal at SPHS in 2015.
A native of Clarksdale, Matthews earned his Bachelor’s in Public Administration from the University of Mississippi before obtaining his Master’s in Educational Leadership from Delta State University.
He and his wife, Ginny, have been married for 25 years. The couple has two daughters; Bailey, a 21-year-old who attends Delta State, and Mallory, an 18-year old who attends the University of Mississippi.
