AFJROTC cadets take part in Career in Action trip

AFJROTC Career in Action trip

A total of 26 South Panola High School Air Force Junior ROTC cadets took part in a Career in Action trip to San Antonio on Oct. 25-28.

Much like the instruction the AFJROTC cadets receive in the classroom from their aerospace science instructors, the trip highlighted areas in communication, aviation history, the science of flight, global awareness, as well as leadership and management.

“Career in Action trips such as this one keeps the students motivated to be the best they can be, as well as keeps the South Panola AFJROTC unit as one of the best in the state of Mississippi,” instructor Sgt. Torrance Martin said.

During the trip, the cadets put into practical application all the things they learn each day in class. The students planned all elements of the trip with minor consultation and help from the corps’ two instructors.

The cadets visited Lackland Air Force Base to see the inner workings of a graduation parade. After leaving the base, the students got an up-close look at the Alamo and its importance to American history. The students completed a full academic day by seeing the historical elements of the River Walk of downtown San Antonio, while also being exposed to other foods, cultures and experiences they had only read about in books.

After an action-packed two days, the cadets were allowed to relax and enjoy a day at Six Flags Fiesta Texas prior to heading back to Mississippi
