SPFPE Grants announced for 2019

Six South Panola School District educators were recently honored with South Panola Foundation for Public Education grants.

Principals, along with South Panola Foundation for Public Education President Ashley Drumheller, and SPFPE Board Members Natalie Lawrence, Josh Bright and Cassandra Rudd, presented grants ranging from $230 to $2,864.30 to the following educators for their projects:

Small Grants

Meg Woods– “Picasso, Please” (BMS)

Mary Fly – “Unsolved Mysteries” (BMS)

Rebecca Jamieson – “BrainPop” (Pope)

Margaret Nix – “Rising Readers (BES)

Large Grants

James Miller – “Solar Car Race” (BJHS)

Mandy Donahue – “Hands-On is Minds-On” (BES)

The six grants, which were funded through SPFPE memberships, specialty car tag sales and donations, totaled $7,512.33.

A call for grant proposals was put out during the spring.

In order to be considered for a grant, the following criteria must be met:

– A project can only be funded if there are no other revenues by which it can be financed in a timely manner by the school district.

– Each dollar of FPE funds must be invested to give maximum educational impact to students per dollar spent.

– All projects must first be approved by the FPE Board of Directors, then by the Superintendent of Education, and finally by the South Panola Board of Education.

Judges were given blind copies of the applications to ensure there was no bias in judging. The judges were chosen from our community of retired educators, business owners, community leaders and parents.

The South Panola Foundation for Public Education aims to improve student achievement by encouraging educational innovation and providing new and enhanced instructional opportunities not traditionally funded by the South Panola School District.
