Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Jessica Tull Pounds
Hello! My name is Jessica Tull Pounds. I teach English III, also known as American Literature, at SPHS where students study valuable and relevant themes in literature and express/develope personal opinions through writing. Here in RM# 122, students study the American Identity, Society and its Influence, American Dreams and Nigtmares, Human Intelligence and Persuasive Writing and Techniques. We will read the novels, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Great Gatsby, and Of Mice and Men. We will also read several short stories, such as Rules of the Game and Flowers for Algernon, and the play, The Glass Menagerie, two critical essays, Self-Reliance and Civil Disobedience, and countless poems. My hopes are to increase vocabulary skills and to help students develope an appreciation for reading and literature.
I also teach Essentials of College Literacy. This is a new course for Seniors who scored between 15-18 on the English section of the ACT. Unfortunately, with these scores, students will be placed in a remedial English in college, but, fortunately, with this course, students are given the opportunity to skip remedial English in college so long as they make a "B" or higher. This class will also take place of their fourth English credit required for graduation. Our hopes at South Panola are to give students equal opportunities to succeed and not be held back by standard testing scores and such.
Most students know me as Ms. Tull, since that is the name they see on their schedules. Although, I recently married in December of 2017, and my new name is Mrs. Pounds. I am from Fulton, MS where I graduated from Itawamba Agricultural High School in May of 2013. While in high school, I dual-enrolled at Itawamba Community College where I majored in English and graduated in December of 2014. I quickly transferred to the University of Mississippi where I majored in Secondary English Education and completed student teaching at Tupelo Middle School in the 8th grade. Now, I am currently in my second professional year of teaching with Juniors and Seniors at SPHS.
