In the mid 1960s, three schools in Panola County — Pope High School, Batesville High School and Patton Lane High School — came together as South Panola High School.
Current enrollment at South Panola High School is approximately 1,200, with a staff of 115. SPHS is a comprehensive public high school offering over 120 Carnegie units and a career and technical program that includes two-year courses: Health Science, Child Care, Culinary Arts, Horticulture, Science, Automotive Service Technology, Construction and Welding. The Air Force sponsors a four-year JROTC program that is in the top 10 percent of the nation's units. We have 13 sports programs and accomplished band and choral programs. The school has five computer labs and wireless carts that allow any classroom to become a lab.
